Workshops and Classes

We offer farm tours, gardening classes, and floral design workshops that are all just as seasonal as our farm and flowers! Our hands-on design classes are taught in the workshop of our beautiful Hillsdale flower shop, or you can join us on the farm for a tour or one of our walk-and-talk, flower-specific, ‘Flower Forums’ and learn how we grow. We hope you’ll peruse the scheduled events listed below and join us for a flower-immersive creative experience or a little slice of life on the flower farm!

The Tulip Gambit: Plan now for great tulips $25

Saturday May 7, 2022; 2:30pm – 4:00pm EST

at Tiny Hearts Farm in Copake, NY

The end of tulip season in May is the best time to assess how your tulips did this year and plan for what you can do even better. In this, our first Flower Forum, Tiny Hearts owner and head grower, Jenny, will cover tulip growing basics for field and garden, and go over some planting and harvest tips as well as common mistakes (she’s made them all!) We’ll then collectively talk over how our gardens grew and answer each other’s questions as we head out to the field to take a look at the Tiny Hearts tulips beds. Whether you’re hoping to extend the flowering season, get longer stems, try that gorgeous new variety, or figure out if you should be worried about those leaf spots, we hope everyone will go home with some inspiration and answers.

Friday June 24, 2022, 5:00pm – 6:30pm EST $25

at Tiny Hearts Farm in Copake, NY

Poppies may be the most intriguing flower we grow – mesmerizing and seductive, their beauty stops people dead in their tracks. They can also be challenging to cultivate and make good cut flowers only once their secrets have been learned. Tiny Hearts owner and head grower, Jenny, will walk you through all the oddball tricks of growing and caring for these finicky flowers in all their forms, but with a focus on Papaver rhoeas, or Shirley poppies. From sowing those teeny tiny seeds to harvesting at the right stage, you’ll gain the confidence to try (or maybe try again!) these captivating beauties in your own garden. After the talk, we’ll walk out to see the Tiny Hearts poppy fields in bloom!

We’ve re-introduced a few crops this season that We’ve re-introduced a few crops this season that we grew back in the day but took a break from for one reason or another (mostly just to make room to try other flowers)!
We’re thoroughly enjoying having these ‘Bright Lights’ cosmos again, and they’re bringing back all kinds of memories from our early days of flower farming! I remember my flower mentor, Mary Lou, teaching me the right cutting stage and how, while each individual flower only lasts a couple of days, a properly cut stem will last the whole week. And how, in the first couple years that we did farmers markets, our most popular bouquets were made of bright lights cosmos, blue bedder salvia, and lemon basil and they smelled so good.
Also, as a proud orange lady, these are my very favorite color and I don’t know how I did without them for so long!
Surprise! We have so many DAHLIAS @tinyheartsflowe Surprise! We have so many DAHLIAS @tinyheartsflowershop today! Looking out over the beds it looked like we’d get a few bunches but when the crew got I to it there were loads of beauties!
