Job Description – Driver

Tiny Hearts Farm, founded in 2011, is a cut flower farm in Copake, NY. We grow on 20 acres in the Hudson Valley, near the Berkshire foothills, with six to seven acres in production each season. We market primarily to florists and grocers in the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, NYC, and Boston, do wedding and event design, and have a new flower shop in neighboring Hillsdale, NY. Our aim is to grow the highest quality cut flowers and specialize in unique and unexpected varieties in line with our personal design aesthetic.

The Job

The delivery driver at Tiny Hearts Farm is primarily responsible for ensuring that flowers arrive safely to their intended destination. When not on delivery, the driver may join the farm crew in the tasks of the day, which include all aspects of producing high quality cut flowers (please see the ‘Flower Farmer’ description for more details.) Depending on the season, driving constitutes anywhere from 10 to 40 hours per week, and farming would make up the remaining hours if full-time work is desired. The driver/farmer can expect to:

  • Safely deliver product to customers in the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, and New York City
  • Be the friendly public face of the farm, interacting with customers daily
  • Maintain delivery and bucket refund records/logs
  • Be responsible for invoices and COD payments
  • Keep the delivery vehicles clean and perform minor maintenance
  • Join the farm crew during non-driving hours

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate for the driver/farmer position will have an impeccable driving record, and be timely, safe, courteous, and responsible. He or she must be comfortable driving in busy metropolitan areas, under time pressure. The ability to work in all kinds of weather, to repeatedly lift 50 lbs, and keep in good communication with the farm while on delivery is a must. Previous commercial driving experience, and experience driving in New York City, is preferred. Farming or floral experience is a plus, but not necessary.

The Details

This position is paid hourly, commensurate with experience. We work 7 –10 hours per day for 5 days per week, depending on the time of year. This is a seasonal position and runs from spring until frost. The employee is responsible for housing. There are many opportunities for farmer education in this area, including CRAFT, Hudson Valley Young Farmer’s Association events, and NOFA field days. Employees are welcome to take flowers home from the farm.
