Poppy ‘Pandora’ – 10 Stems
POPPY CARE INFORMATION: PLEASE READ!
Papaver rhoeas, aka Shirley poppies, have a vase life of up to 5 days if you follow a few tips! Good vase life starts on the farm – when we harvest, we cut when the poppies are still in bud and strip off excess foliage and buds so water travels up the stem and directly to the main flower. You’ll also notice that the stems have been flame-seared at the bottoms to keep in the poppy’s hydrating milky sap. We recommend you DO NOT re-cut the stems of your poppies! But if you must, you have to re-sear the bottoms of the stems with a flame or with a quick dip in boiling water. If you’re traveling any distance with your poppies, bring some water for them to travel in, and keep your poppies as cool as possible for best vase life. When you receive your poppies, some will probably still be in bud – they usually pop out of their shells on their own, but if they haven’t within a day or two, it’s ok to help them! Gently peel the protective shell off to reveal the little wrinkly poppy inside, and the flower will unfurl within a few hours. What poppies like best is to sit in a cool spot and do their thing – they’re amazing to watch as they unfurl, open, and drop their petals to reveal their beautiful pods.
