2022 Flower CSA Shares now available!

Our Flower CSA is back for the 2022 season, with improvements and new member benefits that will make this the best time yet to join us for a season mahjong slot of local flowers! If these past couple of years have taught us anything, it’s that we thrive or wither by the strength of our community, so the focus of this year’s CSA (besides bumper crops of gorgeous flowers, of course) is to build strong relationships between our farm and CSA members – through farmer-led tours, on-farm events, and flower education.

What is Flower CSA and how does it work?

Flower CSA members pre-pay for their flowers in advance of the growing season, which in turn helps our farm shoulder the early season expenses of growing at a time when farm revenues are low (these costs include things like seeds, greenhouse heat, etc.)  CSA members receive a unique code to be used to pre-order flowers online (for pickup at our Hillsdale Flower Shop), and also a swipe-able card  to be used for in-person flower shopping at our Hillsdale shop. To thank you for your support, we’re offering CSA members special benefits like members-only farm tours, a free pass to one of our new on-farm flower forums, and discounts on gardening and floral design workshops!

Happening around the Farm in January…

Those bountiful CSA flowers are already well on their way! Our crew has been working hard planting, seeding, and preparing all winter. Ranunculus were started from corms in the propagation house in early December and have just now put on enough root slot depo 10k mass to be planted out this coming week. Sweet peas? Seeded in November and carefully watched and watered as they put on cool-season growth and get big enough for planting out soon. Those gorgeous, July-blooming lisianthus that we all love were started from seed last week – yes, 7 long months from seed to flower! And, most labor-of-love intense of all are the dahlias, which will have several hundred hours put into them by the time they’re all divided for planting.

Venue change for this weekends dahlia talk; + pre-order your boxed lunch today!

Hope you had a great labor day weekend! After a brief holiday, our flower availability for the week is LIVE on our website! Please get your flower orders in early as we know this will be a busy week for us!

We’re getting ready for the first ever Workshop Experience Opening Weekend this Saturday! We’ll be hosting a Growing Fantastic Dahlias Class in the barn at Tiny Hearts Farm (see below to read about the change of venue for this event) and later on a Dahlia Arranging Workshop at the Tiny Hearts Flower Shop.  Although both of these are sold out, we will be announcing a few upcoming classes this weekend!

Alongside our sold-out floral festivities, our supremely talented business neighbors are hosting all sorts of workshops simultaneously.  If you missed out on the one of the few spots for our design workshop, consider purchasing a ticket to one of the FANTASTIC events happening in town.

VENUE CHANGE: This Saturday’s ‘Growing Fantastic Dahlias’ Class Moved to Tiny Hearts Farm in Copake

We’ve decided to move this Saturday’s Dahlia Talk to the barn at Tiny Hearts Farm in Copake! In light of the recent virus numbers in our area that we would feel more comfortable with a little extra ‘breathing room’.  So rather than our flower shop—which could have accommodated 25 people in fairly close quarters—we’ll be giving the talk in our barn at Tiny Hearts Farm, right in Copake!

Please note: There is a Town of Copake public parking facility just a short walk down the road from the farm.  Please plan on parking here and walking to the farm. Click the button for directions to the farm and to see where the town parking lot is located.

Do you have your tickets? Have you pre-ordered your boxed lunch?

Some of you have already signed up for our first-ever Workshop Experience Weekend happening on Sept 11-12. We are now offering BOXED LUNCHES that can be pre-ordered for that Saturday (our busiest day) and created by three stellar local food spots CrossRoads Food ShopCopake General Store and Roe Jan Brewing Co. Pre-ordering will provide a stress-free way to re-fuel on that Saturday and take full advantage of your day in Hillsdale. CLICK HERE for menu details and tickets for your pre-ordered lunch.

For those who are just learning about this Workshop Weekend, we are excited to announce a whole array of workshops and classes ranging from crafting, writing, history, culinary, dance, to floristry and more. Fifteen workshops led by exceptional experts will happen over two days on Sept 11-12, right here in Hillsdale NY.

Click Here to see our workshops and classes, as well as more information about boxed lunches. As you scroll through, be sure to click on the links to check out all the details and read about the experts leading these workshops. And don’t miss the “Jazz Lunch” lawn concert between the HGS Home Chef and Tiny Hearts Flower Shop!

I may not be the best flower picker on the farm, but put a guitar in my hands and my picking skills improve exponentially! Join me between classes on the porch of the HGS Home Chef from 11:30 -1:30pm for an afternoon “Jazz Lunch.”  Be sure to pre-order your boxed lunch using the link button below and, if you haven’t already done so, sign-up for one of the weekends workshops!

We’re happy to have the great John Menagon on bass and the always swinging David Berger on drums, don’t miss it!

Tiny Hearts Flower Shop Welcomes our New Manager, Diane!

We’ve been preparing for a while for Fanny’s (our previous shop manager) maternity leave and are super excited to welcome Diane Lieux back to the team.  Diane last worked with us as part of our event design team during the busy 2019 season (see above for a picture of one of our installs!) We’re so grateful that she could again join us this September!
